Sidewalk on Ashley Street has been extended from Ducette Road to Foxboro Public School.

This project addressed resident concerns regarding pedestrian safety for students and community members walking along this section of roadway.

The new sidewalk was constructed on the east side of Ashley Street (north of Ducette Road) to:

  • Extend the existing sidewalk on the east side of Ashley Street to Foxboro Public School
  • Avoid pedestrian road crossings
  • Avoid the need to acquire private property
  • Avoid conflicts with existing utility poles

These upgrades were completed to help develop a safe and efficient road and transportation network for cyclists and pedestrians.

    Construction of the new sidewalk as well as the associated asphalt resurfacing and drainage improvements has been completed.

    The Ashley Street sidewalk extension from Ducette Road to Foxboro Public School is set to begin the week of Sept. 8.

    The northbound lane will be closed during working hours, with alternating traffic in the southbound lane controlled by automated traffic lights. Motorists should slow down and expect delays in this area. The road will be reopened to two lanes outside of working hours and on weekends.

    This project is expected to be fully completed before the end of October.

    A Public Consultation Centre was held at the start of May to gather public input on the proposed sidewalk solution to provide a safe and accessible space for pedestrians.

    Based on positive public feedback, the cross-section alternative selected is curb and sidewalk within the east boulevard. Detailed Design has progressed and will incorporate minimizing impacts on existing residential properties, infrastructure, and drainage.
