The City of Belleville is undergoing a Corporate Climate Action Plan to achieve greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions and integrate sustainability and climate change into applicable City processes and procedures. The Corporate Climate Action Plan will be developed using globally recognized standards and tools the meet the requirements of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Partners for Climate Protection (PCP). The PCP program is a five-step milestone framework to assist municipalities in addressing climate change through analysis of current emissions, setting reduction targets, developing, and implementing a climate action plan, as well as monitoring long-term progress. Corporate Action Plan will enhance Belleville's environmental quality and resilience against climate change, directly contributing to healthier living conditions and sustainable economic growth for the community.
The Corporate Climate Action Plan will aim to:
Measure the impact of City operations and identify actions the City can take to build a more climate-resilient and sustainable City.
Generate a comprehensive data analysis and methodology of municipal GHG inventories for the following sectors:
Buildings and Facilities
Fleet Vehicles
Streetlights
Water and Wastewater
Solid Waste
Staff Travel
Develop a strategy for coordinating climate mitigation and adaptation actions throughout our short- and long-term planning and set GHG targets to strive for.
The Corporate Action Plan is a mechanism to reduce the City of Belleville’s corporate greenhouse gas emissions and guide staff on sustainable practices towards a climate-resilient City. The development and implementation of this plan aim to systematically guide Belleville towards becoming a climate-resilient city, reducing its carbon footprint, and promoting sustainable municipal operations.
