The City of Belleville undertook an update to its GIS-based zoning map through the development of a new application called Find My Zoning. The objective of this project was to modernize the City’s existing zoning map by improving accessibility, accuracy, and functionality for residents, developers, and City Staff. The updated application supports more informed land use decisions by making zoning information easier to find and understand.
Zoning maps are a key tool used to communicate how land may be used and developed within the City. They help implement the policies of the Official Plan and provide clarity on permitted uses, development standards, and land-use permissions.
The Find My Zoning application builds on the City’s existing GIS mapping platform and introduces several new features, including the ability to view permitted uses by zone, access aerial imagery, and overlay Official Plan land use designations. The application is available through the City’s GIS Hub, which is accessible directly from the City’s homepage, making zoning information easier for the public to locate and use.
By improving transparency and usability, the Find My Zoning application supports more efficient development review processes, reduces reliance on in-person and email inquiries, and empowers users to access planning information online. The updated tool reflects the City’s commitment to modernizing digital services and providing clear, user-friendly planning resources to support growth and development in Belleville.
