The City of Belleville developed a Heritage Properties web map to improve public access to information about properties with cultural heritage value across the city. The objective of this project was to provide a centralized, easy-to-use digital tool that helps residents, property owners, and developers understand where designated and listed heritage properties are located and what protections apply to them.
Heritage properties play an important role in preserving the City’s historical character and cultural identity. Making this information readily available supports informed decision-making and helps increase awareness of heritage conservation policies and processes.
The Heritage Properties web map displays the location of all designated and listed heritage properties and includes property-specific information such as photographs, historical descriptions, and relevant background details. For designated heritage properties, the map also provides access to the associated designation by-laws, allowing users to better understand the legal framework and heritage attributes tied to each property.
The Heritage Properties web map is available through the City’s GIS Hub, which can be accessed directly from the City’s homepage. By centralizing heritage information in a single, user-friendly platform, the tool enhances transparency, supports informed planning and development decisions, and helps residents, property owners, and decision-makers better understand and protect Belleville’s cultural heritage resources.
The Heritage Properties web map application was launched in November 2025.
