The Ministry of Transportation is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment and Preliminary Design Study for improvements to Highway 401 from 4.3 km east of Highway 37 to 5 km west of County Road 41 / Centre Street in Napanee. The study is considering the following improvements:
- Interim widening of Highway 401 from four to six lanes, and an ultimate widening from six to eight lanes;
- Rehabilitation and/or replacement of all bridges within the project limits; and
- Long-term configurations for the Shannonville Road, Marysville Road and Deseronto Road interchanges of the Wallbridge-Loyalist Road, Highway 62 and Highway 37 interchanges.
Key components of the study include:
- Review of existing conditions and deficiencies;
- Investigation of reasonable alternatives for the highway widening and interchanges;
- Completion of environmental investigations;
- Consultation with key stakeholders; and
- Documentation in a Group ‘B’ Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) and Preliminary Design Report.
