The Ministry of Transportation is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment and Preliminary Design Study for improvements to Highway 401 from 0.4km west of Christiani Road to 1 km west of Wallbridge-Loyalist Road. The study is considering the following improvements:
- Interim widening of Highway 401 from four to six lanes, and an ultimate widening from six to eight lanes;
- Rehabilitation and/or replacement of all bridges and culverts within the project limits; and
- Interchange modifications.
Key components of the study include:
- Developing and evaluating alternatives;
- Identifying appropriate improvements;
- Determining potential impacts;
- Outlining environmental protection/mitigation measures;
- Consultation with key stakeholders; and
- Documentation in a Group ‘B’ Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) and Preliminary Design Report.
