Construction is now underway for the New Belleville Agricultural Society Facility. The new facility will be constructed on an approximately 30 acre parcel of land owned by the City of Belleville, located north of Black Diamond Road and east of Highway 37. This property will serve as the new Belleville Agricultural Fairgrounds site, which will move from its current location at the north-west corner of Sidney Street and Bridge Street West following the completion of construction. A new road has recently been constructed off of Black Diamond Road, which will serve as access to the new Fairgrounds site and will provide a location for utility service connections for the new facility.

The new Fairgrounds site and facility have been designed to meet municipal and accessibility requirements, and follows the principals of Universal Design. The new building will be constructed of low-maintenance materials and has been designed for sustainability and energy conservation to promote a long service life. Key features of the building will include exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, a kitchen, offices, lobby space and maintenance facilities. The site will also include ample parking and driveway access.

The new Fairgrounds site will occupy approximately half of the entire 75 acre triangular parcel of City owned lands north of Black Diamond Road and east of Highway 37. The remaining lands surplus to the Fairgrounds site are planned to be marketed and sold by the City of Belleville in parcels as commercial/employment development opportunities.

Project Status

Bel-Con Design-Builders Ltd. was retained by the City of Belleville following a competitive procurement process in the Summer of 2024. Following proposal evaluation conducted by the City of Belleville, Bel-Con was awarded the design-build contract for the New Belleville Agricultural Society Facility. To date, Bel-Con has completed the design of the new facility to meet functional requirements that were developed in consultation with the City of Belleville and members of the Belleville Agricultural Society. Additionally, Bel-Con has begun procurement of long-lead time materials in an effort to expedite the construction schedule. In Spring 2025 the project’s Site Plan was approved and Building Permit issued, which has allowed for the commencement of construction on the building’s foundation.
