Upper Bridge Rehabilitation

Work is actively underway on the rehabilitation of the Upper Front Street Bridge! The following are notable elements currently completed or underway:

Works Completed:

· Removal of Ballast wall and Expansion Joint assemblies at East

· Removal of Interlock Pavers, Curb and Gutter, Concrete under sidewalks at East approach

· Earth excavation at East approach

· Removal of Splash Panels

· Removal of Asphalt and Waterproofing over deck

· Installation of Access Platform at North underside for Tie-Beam/concrete overhang repairs

· Removal of Street Lighting Poles, Removal of Concrete Lamppost Pedestals at Pier

· Removal of Hangers and Temporary Support for Utility at North

· Abrasive blast Cleaning of Concrete Arches

· Removal of Concrete Sidewalk, Curb and Pedestrian Barriers at North

· Partial depth concrete removal at West abutment

Works Ongoing:

· Reconstruction of Overhang Brackets

· Reconstruction of Retaining Wall at NE approach

· Partial depth concrete removal at Arch hangers and ribs

Works Upcoming:

· Reconstruction of North Sidewalk

Construction on the rehabilitation of the Upper Front Street Bridge has commenced. Urbanlink, the successful contractor awarded the work, has mobilized to site and has begun concrete removals on the approaches and underside of the structure. Traffic control measures are in place and the bridge is fully closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Detours are in place with appropriate signage.

The tender for the rehabilitation of the Upper Bridge has been awarded. Construction commencement is anticipated in Summer 2026.

The Tender for the Upper Bridge Rehabilitation has closed and bids are being evaluated

The Tender for the Upper Bridge Rehabilitation project has been issued with anticipated startup in spring 2026. Construction completion is anticipated by end of 2026.

A Public Consultation Centre will be held as follows to provide information and gather feedback regarding the proposed rehabilitation of Front Street (Upper) Bridge.

Location: SMB Room (3rd floor) Belleville City Hall, 169 Front Street, Belleville, Ontario

As no formal presentations will be made, members of the public are encouraged to attend at their convenience. Project staff will be on hand to answer any questions and provide more information. All presentation materials will be available on the City’s Get Involved webpage one week prior to the PCC.

An RFPQ has been issued to assess and confirm qualified contractors. A tender to complete the rehabilitation project will follow.
